Ride the 947 Cycle Challenge for a ‘Kingdom’ purpose

posted on

Cyclists take to the roads of Johannesburg to ride in the 20th edition of the 947 Cycle Challenge on Sunday, 20th of November 2016. An integral part of the race is the Ride for a Purpose campaign, which is a platform for cyclists to create awareness about personal causes that are close to their hearts.

Last year Wycliffe South Africa entered a team, riding as Africa Alive. The team cycled to raise funds for the Himba Bible Translation Project, which will produce an oral Scripture translation for the Himba people in northern Namibia. With funds raised to date, the Himba project has commenced translation with selected stories from the Bible.

There are approximately 800 languages that need Bible translation in Africa and over 100 of these are in southern Africa. Together with key strategic partners, Wycliffe works towards achieving Vision 2025: A translation started in every language that needs one by the year 2025. Funds raised from the 947 Cycle Challenge will go directly towards realising this vision.

Cyclists who are interested in riding for a Kingdom purpose are encouraged to pledge an amount of R1,000 or more towards the cause. To join the Africa Alive team, enter at www.cyclechallenge.co.za and email your name, ID number and pledge amount to bernie@africa-alive.org.za.

If you enter before 30 June 2016, you could receive a personalised race number, preferential number collection or free entry amongst other rewards.
Choose to ride for a purpose and help to change lives!
