Pretoria, South Africa, 31 August 2015 - The very successful exhibition ‘In Retrospect’ showcasing Anton Smit’s acclaimed artwork from the past 40 years has just closed. Smit is acknowledged as the artist who became one of South Africa’s most inspirational sculptors. Famous for his evoking themes of suffering, reconciliation, glory and sublimation, the self-taught artist’s success can be attributed to his determination and courage to forge ahead in the face of great difficulty.
The Menlyn Boutique Hotel, a 5-star offering in the heart of Pretoria was proud to have hosted this art exhibition. The hotel was home to the well-known sculptor’s artwork for the past three months, affording art enthusiasts and the public the opportunity to view some of the artist’s finest creations on the exquisite property.
Hosting an art exhibition at a hotel was a first of its kind and management were thrilled that Smit recognised the hotel as a prime location to host this exhibition. “We have long appreciated Anton’s work and we are proud to have collaborated with him on this refreshing and exciting way of displaying art,” concludes Paul Duverge, General Manager of The Menlyn Boutique Hotel.
