THE INTERPROVINCIAL PRIMARY SCHOOL GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Interprovincial Primary Schools Golf Championships recently took place at the Randpark Golf Club, on the Firethorn course over 36 holes and two days. This championship has been running for 10 years and gives all the primary school golfers an opportunity to compete against other golfers in other provinces to find the province with the best golfers and award them with the title as champions.
The following provinces participated: Gauteng North, Central Gauteng, North-West, Limpopo, Ekurhuleni and Mpumalanga. There is more than 110 schools that compete throughout the year in different league games and qualifier rounds to finally be chosen to represent their province and the Golf Union in the IPPSG Championships at the end of the year.
Hardus van der Merwe, the Central Gauteng Primary School Golf Coordinator explains, “This is where the children start from grass roots developing their golf and where the stars are born.”
The competition was very competitive with all the top players from the provinces competing.
The girl’s individual stroke-play under 13 division results:
Winner: Kiera Floyd Ekurhuleni
2nd Place: Kim Turgut Central Gauteng
3rd place: Holly Lau Gauteng North
The boy’s individual stroke-play under 13 division result:
Winner: Casey Jarvis Ekurhuleni
2nd Place: John-William Blomerus Ekurhuleni
3rd place: Chrisjan Maas Gauteng North
The boys’ team competition consisted of 12 players and the best of 10 scores counted. The girls’ team competition consisted of 6 players and the best of 4 scores counted.

The overall winner for the day was Casey Jarvis with a score of -11. Casey is 13 years old and attends Parkrand Primary School. He has won tournaments in America, Scotland and Malaysia. He practices golf at least 6 times a week. His handicap is a scratch. Casey explains, “I love playing Golf at Randpark Golf course. The greens are good and there are lots of trees. The practice facilities are excellent. I am happy I have won today and am very proud of myself.”
