Members of Randpark Golf Club Donate to Charities

posted on

Randpark Golf Club members have graciously contributed to their Captains Fund through raffle draws, donations and Golfing Fines.  Randpark is proud to announce that over the last 18 months a total of R146 000 has been collected and donated to various charities throughout the course of this year.

Donations have been made to Africa Food for Thought, Cystic Fibrosis Association, Wilhelmina Hoskins, Northcliff Rotary, Woodside Sanctuary, Matla A Bana and Toevlugoord.

On the 28th November 2016, donations were further made to 2 charities – The Village Safe Haven Orphanage and the Look Good, Feel Better Non-Profit Organisation that helps those women with Cancer regain their confidence.

The Village Safe Haven Orphanage is a non-profit organisation in Sandton providing quality care to orphaned, abandoned, abused and retro positive children.  Each child is loved, nurtured and given hope for the future.  They currently are caring for 24 children and education is of prime importance. They have an independently run pre-school on site while the older children attend various schools in the neighbourhood. R5 000 was donated by Randpark to assist them with the wish list for the children.

The Look Good, Feel Better programme is the Cosmetic Industry helping women cancer patients, undergoing active treatment, in a practical and positive way.  They help women facing the trauma and stress of cancer, assisting them to overcome the distressing appearance related side effects of their treatment.   Self-confidence and self-esteem can be at an all-time low, especially after suffering hair loss, pale or sallow complexion and uneven skin tone.  Specially trained volunteer beauty professionals guide patients through the 12 step skin care and make up regime with each women using her gift of products which she takes home to practice to make the very best of her appearance.  These hands on sessions provide patients with an opportunity to forget about their illness and enjoy the time of pampering, fun and laughter.  They meet and share with others going through similar experiences and, most importantly, look and feel fabulous when they leave the session.   R10 000 was donated to this heart-warming and very special initiative when women feel at the worst and most vulnerable in their lives.  Margaret Hewson, the programme director said, “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

During the year members donated prizes which were used in raffle draws.  Donations were made by members and the Randpark Golf Club.  Golf fines were handed out to team members for golfing infractions that happened during the game.  These ‘fines’ generated a lot of laughter during the year and were all in good fun.

A few individual members at Randpark demonstrated such kindness at a recent raffle draw.    They requested that their great prize be raffled again at a later date so that another member may stand the chance to win in order to generate more money for charity.

Francois Swart, General Manager said, “A big thank you to all the members contributing during this past year, you really have made a difference in people’s lives that need it most.”
